Large-Scale Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG)

LNG is natural gas that has been converted to liquid form for easy transportation over very long distances, as LNG takes up about 1/600th the volume of natural gas. With the domestic gas supply high and prices low, and other areas of the world willing to pay a premium for natural gas (Asia-Pacific), gas companies operating in the United States are looking towards exporting gas via LNG to maximize profits.

Siemens can provide couplings, gearboxes, motors and drive systems for a number of liquefaction applications including:

  • Refrigeration compression (MR & C3) for all-electric LNG (eLNG)

  • BOG (Boil Off Gas) compression for all plant designs

  • End Flash Gas compression, when applicable

  • Helper Starter motors for industrial gas turbine driven plants designs

  • Pumps for all plant designs

  • Fin-Fan coolers for all plant designs


Midstream Micro LNG

Small-scale LNG (Micro LNG) for Natural Gas Transportation

LNG can also be used as fuel for heavy duty vehicles such as long-haul trucks, buses, mining trucks. It has significant advantage over CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) since CNG is stored at ambient temperature and requires tanks with thicker walls to hold the pressure. LNG provides more energy per volume therefore long-haul trucks can take more LNG on board in lighter chilled tanks. Siemens can provide complete electrical systems pre-engineered for certain capacity of liquefaction systems; including motors, gearboxes, variable speed drives, low voltage and medium voltage switchgear and pre-fabricated power houses.
