Part probing in auto-mode with ShopMill — SINUMERIK 840D sl and 828D (milling)
When setting up a milling machine, speed and accuracy can directly lead to profitability. This is a key reason why integrated probes have become almost mandatory in today’s top shops. It's very common in today’s manufacturing environment to be working directly from electronic DXF prints. In many cases, the details required to explain part geometry may be too complex to create a traditional CAD print. Also, human error can be avoided when programming by removing the data entry portion of a program. In this webinar, we will demonstrate the new, fully-integrated DXF option for software version 4.7.

Users will now be able to bring DXF files directly into the SINUMERIK control without the need for external software. We’ll create a ShopMill program (conversational), as well as a programGuide part program (G-code) utilizing a DXF file. Once complete, attendees will have a good understanding of the steps required to program the SINUMERIK control directly from a DXF file.

This webinar is designed to show a user how to leverage 5-axis machining technologies in the demanding markets of the job shop. The course is intended to give users the ability to both create G-code programs at the control, as well as understand critical cycles that will be used by your post-processor when creating CAD/CAM-based programs.

We will first look at the key functions within the Siemens control that aid in dramatically simplifying the tasks of setting up a 5-axis machine. Mixed technology machine tools are becoming more popular every year in manufacturing.  The process of combining milling and turning operations on the same machine not only improves part quality, but also reduces manufacturing time. The challenge; however, is programming such a complex machine. Once a B-axis rotary is added, it becomes a 5-axis machine tool. The SINUMERIK control, utilizing ShopTurn, has unique functionality designed specifically for this task.    

In this webinar, we’ll have an opportunity to explore actual programming examples that will take advantage of a 5-axis turn-mill machine. First, we’ll utilize a common turning tool to jump between the main spindle and counter-spindle. Programming with programGuide for turning is intended to step a user through the basics of G-code programming in the Siemens SINUMERIK Operate graphical user interface. Attendees will get an opportunity to see a basic 2-D turned part programmed, simulated and run. We will create new tools in the offset table, as well as review the steps required to set the offset of such tools. In the second part of the webinar, we will review a more complex part program that shows examples of C-axis drilling and milling utilizing upper level commands. Upon completion of the seminar, a user should have a good understanding of programGuide and how to create G-code programs in the SINUMERIK Operate graphical user interface.
