Digital printing automation

Digital printing refers to methods of printing from a digital-based image directly to a wide variety of media. Although your home or office printer is digital, here we’re talking about commercial printing where smaller-run jobs are printed using large-format and/or high-volume laser or inkjet technology. Currently digital printing has a higher cost per page than traditional printing methods, but this is often offset (pun intended) by eliminating the steps required to make and change printing plates. It also allows for on-demand printing, short turnaround time, and even a modification of the image (variable data) used for each impression. The labor savings and the growing capabilities of digital presses means that digital printing is evolving to the point where it can match or supersede the cost of higher quantities using traditional printing technology.
