Modular and scalable In addition to a scalable NCU performance, the SINUMERIK 840D sl also provides excellent modularity of the operator components. With a flexible M:N operator concept – e.g. the combination of arbitrary operating fields with the NCU – the SINUMERIK 840D sl can be ideally adjusted to the operator philosophy applied by state-of-the-art premium machine concepts.
Benchmark in open architecture The open system architecture of the SINUMERIK 840D sl is unique. For example, the CNC can be optimally adjusted to the machine technology and shows a high degree of freedom in production automation.

Designed for industrial, high-performance applications in mechanical and system engineering, the SINAMICS S120 CNC servo drive offers powerful single and coordinated drives (multiple-axis applications) supporting vector or servo functions. Covering the 0.16 – 6,000 HP (0.12 - 4,500 kW) performance range and offering a broad range of cooling concepts, SINAMICS S120 features numerous harmonized components and functions, and unprecedented flexibility to design optimal solutions. The system’s modular design makes it possible to configure drive systems with a virtually unlimited number of axes or main spindles. The power modules are dependent on the size of the motors and the infeed module is determined by the required DC link rating.
SIMOTICS 1FK7 synchronous servomotors are 25 percent smaller than previous 1FK models - even more ideal for CNC servo motor applications. With high torques of up to 108 Newton meters and a particularly favorable torque-inertia ratio, this motor achieves a very high dynamic response resulting in decreased machine down-time. The rugged, maintenance-free 1FK7 motor design ensures high operational reliability and is universally suitable for all mechanical engineering applications, particularly robots and handling tasks.
The 1FT7 motors are permanent magnet synchronous motors with very compact dimensions and a visually attractive design. Their tried and tested cross profile enables these motors to be quickly and easily installed. 1FT7 motors meet the highest demands with respect to dynamics, speed setting range, as well as field weakening, true running, and positional accuracy. They are equipped with state-of-the-art encoder technology and are optimized for use in our fully digital drive and control systems.
Siemens 1PH8 synchronous servo motors excel in demanding, high-power applications. Their high-power density allows a small footprint and supplies high torque at medium rotor inertia. The synchronous servo design generates 30 to 40 percent more torque and power than the already compact 1PH8 induction version, which is about 30% smaller than standard NEMA or IEC induction motors. The servo design of the 1PH8 has the same outer dimensions as the induction design allowing simple future upgrades.
Widely used, asynchronous induction motors are a preferred choice for industrial applications due to their rugged construction, absence of brushes, and the ability to accurately control motor speed. Compact, with high-power density, The Siemens 1PH8 CNC spindle motor is almost maintenance-free and features an optional integrated, high-resolution measuring system for high-end speed and position control. Used in conjunction with SINAMICS S120 drives, these motors approach servo quality.
Siemens linear motors extend the successful product range for the constantly increasing demand for high performance and economical direct drive solutions. For innovative OEMs, linear motors will open the horizon to outstanding new machine concepts. Features include a very high traversing speed up to 360 m/min; machining powers up to 20,700 Newton per motor and excellent dynamics and precision. Using linear motors and SINAMICS drives, Siemens provides a linear drive system specifically adapted to the speed and acceleration requirements of machine tools.
Operating as a synchronous motor with permanent magnets on the rotor side, Siemens’ torque motors offer maximum precision and dynamics for positioning and continuous-path control. Thus the CNC torque motor can also be used as a direct drive. All motors are exclusively offered as integrated motors, consisting of stator and rotor, in two different fundamental designs: with cooling jacket and with power and precision cooling.
